Offered for sale is the original artwork for the comic strip DANNY DINGLE written and drawn by Bernard "Dib" Dibble. Art Type: Daily comic strip original artwork. Medium: Pen and ink over pencil/graphite on Bristol art board.
Publisher: United Feature Syndicate, Inc. Publication Date: February 2, 1933. Dimensions: 22.5" wide by 5.5" tall (board dimensions; image slightly smaller). The Danny Dingle strip (aka "Danny") ran from 1924 to 1938 and was written and drawn by Bernard DIbble, who also worked on several other comic strips assisting Rudolf Dirks on The Captain and the Kids, Gus Mager on Hawkshaw the Detective, and Ernie Bushmiller on Nancy and Fritzi Ritz. He drew the one-pager Jonesy for Will Eisner's comic supplement (the Spirit section) through 1949. Danny Dingle was a humor strip in the mold of Moon Mullins, and followed the adventures of good-hearted but not the sharpest knife in the drawer (and frequently unemployed) Danny. This daily features Danny, working as head water boy for an elephant act at the Bijou Theater, and his oddball cousin Dewberry, who spikes the elephants' water with his "wicked elixir".
Not sure what's in the potion, but the elephants cut loose and run amok through the town. A cute gag well rendered by Dibble. A nice example of a rarely seen original strip. The art is in very good to excellent overall condition. Board has toned/darkened in upper right corner.
