Publication Date: 1963 (issue date of original comic book). Dimensions: 17" tall by 11" wide (board dimensions; image slightly smaller). Description: This is the original artwork for a recreation of the cover to Fantastic Four issue 18 (cover date September 1963) by Mike DeCarlo (long time comic book artist renowned for his inking).
The inking on this piece is superb, and DeCarlo has perfectly captured both the feel and the details of Jack Kirby's original image. This exciting cover features the FF battling the Super Skrull (this issue featured introduction and origin of the Super Skrull). Possessed of all of the powers of the FF (and more), the Super Skrull has stunned the Human Torch, whose flame is extinguished as he falls toward the street. Fantastic (Reed Richards) reaches to catch the Torch as the Thing (Ben Grimm) challenges the Skrull and the Invisible Girl (as she was known then; Sue Richards) looks on. Everything you see, including the lettering, is original art.The art comes with a color (printed) image of the FF#18 comic book cover (not the book itself) and a printed information sheet. The three pieces can be framed together for a spectacular display. NOTE: This is NOT the original 1963 Jack Kirby (and Paul Reinman) art, but a faithful 2017 recreation by Mike DeCarlo.
