Very rare original art by an American master of the satirical political cartoon. This beautifully rendered cartoon comments on the USA/USSR INF talks.

The INF treaty (signed in December, 1987 and ratified in 1988) banned certain short and intermediate range nuclear missiles. Clearly, MacNelly believes the INF talks/treaty to be somewhat limited in effect, as the dismantled nukes will be replaced by conventional weapons. Wonderfully satirical depiction by MacNelly of a blacksmith literally beating missiles into conventional forces. Gorgeous pen and ink work (MacNelly drew the heck out of every cartoon and his "Shoe" comic strip), and wonderful touch with the Craftint shading to provide subtlety to the tones. He was a prolific illustrator and artist, rightly renowned for his editorial cartoons and his comic strips ("Shoe" and "Pluggers"). Winner of 3 Pulitzer Prizes, 2 Reuben Awards, 2 NCS Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year Awards, a Thomas Nast Award, and many others, Jeff MacNelly was a titan of the political-editorial cartoon.

The art is in very good to excellent overall condition. Crease to upper right corner of board (not affecting art).
